Though there were many other intelligent people in his batch at Harvard University, Mark soon earned a good name in computer programming in his campus and he had already built two programs named FaceMash and CouseMatch by his sophomore year. Both of the programs that he had developed earned an immense fame but Harvard University had to shutdown FaceMash when it was considered to be inappropriate.
Mark was unstoppable. He partnered up his fellows and created a social networking site for allowing his campus’s students get in touch with each other. The site went live in 2004, under the name Facebook, his biggest achievement.
Upon completion of his sophomore year, he dropped out of college to pursue Facebook as his lifetime career and dedicate all of his time to it. By the end of the year, the website managed to get a reach of 1 million users. This drastic growth attracted attention of many firms and Mark moved on to Silicon Valley in 2005. The first round of investments that Facebook got was of $12.7 million from VC Firm Accel Partners, and this initiated the path of success for Facebook.
By the end of the year 2005, Facebook website had got 5.5 million users and received more offers from Microsoft and Yahoo. Till then, Facebook kept on nourishing every moment and the network kept on expanding. The company reported 1.47 billion daily users on average, and an increase of 11 percent per year.
According to a research conducted by Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg holds a net worth of $63.5 billion till July, 2018. Mark has signed the Giving Pledge that states that he’ll donate half of his net worth for philanthropic causes. He believes in helping others for a good cause. On the birth of his daughter, he and his wife authored an open letter stating they would give away 99 percent of their net worth in their lifetime. They have already set up a limited liability cooperation, allowing both of them do things that are not allowed to be done by charitable trusts, making their foundation even more effective.
