After Pakistan vs India, the most hyped cricket rivals considered within Pakistan are Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars. How can we forget the latest match of PSL4 played on Saturday in Dubai, between Karachi and Lahore, as this match gave us some legendary stuff to talk about: Haris Rauf from Lahore Qalandars!
Unfolding the Young Star’s Mystery
When Haris arrived at Dubai airport, he was still unknown to the world of cricket as many people had heard his name for the very first time. Thanks to Pakistan Super League, we got to see this amazing star and his emerging talent for the very first time in the match against Karachi.
It was Aaqib Javed, the coach of Lahore Qalandars who discovered his talent first and plucked this raw gem from street cricket, that is commonly played in Pakistan by cricket lovers.
Rauf is clearly into the hype, with the description “150” on his shirt’s back, presumably pointing towards the bowling speed he can easily hit. The evidence is his bowling ratio in the match against Karachi, as he sent down Ravi Bopara, Imad Wasim, Sohail Khan and not to forget, Muhammad Rizwan back to the pavilion and destroyed the batting line of his opponents. Not only this, he was much appreciated by the much-loved Fawad Rana, the owner of the Lahore Qalandars franchise.
With stars in his eyes, he took the responsibility to bowl Lahore to against the rivals Karachi and hatched plans with the acting captain AB De Villiers who was appointed in place of Muhammad Hafeez. By the end of the match, a 22-run win was awarded to Lahore Qalandars due to his outstanding bowling figures, and Haris was declared the man of the match.
Haris’s Views After the Win
Upon being asked on his future plans, his answer was, “I want to focus on PSL first, and if I perform and the selectors think I am good enough, then why not? If they give me the opportunity, I will try to take it. Of course, I am very happy, especially because of the way Lahore Qalandars have worked with me over the past one-and-a-half years. I was selected in September 2017 from the player development program. They kept me in their academy, sent me to Australia where I received training. I then returned to the academy.
I had a chance to play in Abu Dhabi. I helped Lahore Qalandars win there. A match-winning bowling performance was the target. I played to my strengths, and we won. It was important I win them the match especially because the way they worked with me. It was my duty to respond to that, and I did. Now the focus is on the next matches. There are lots of matches coming up. Inshallah, I hope to keep winning these matches.”
According to Mikey Arthur, the coach of Pakistan Cricket Team, he bowled well and executed his Yorkers successfully, and was impressive throughout.
We all praise this young star and hope to see more of his talent in the upcoming matches.
